Just East of Oakland Cemetery, Cabbagetown is a neighborhood of shotgun and cottage style homes surrounding the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill, which began operations in 1881. The Mill has been converted into a loft community and demand for affordable housing in the in-town market has lead to a resurgence in popularity for the community. The residents host several events throughout the year including the wildly popular Chomp and Stomp, a music festival and chili cook off. If you’re wondering about the name of the village, Creative Loafing offers some interesting history.
