Oakhurst

Originally developed as a streetcar suburb, Oakhurst is a historic neighborhood in Decatur, Georgia, just east of Atlanta. The neighborhood primarily consists of residences built in early 20th Century, post-war style of the 1940s including craftsman bungalows and brick homes with front porches. “Oakhurst Village” is a business district at the intersections of East Lake Drive, Oakhurst Road and Mead Road. It contains low-key food and drink options and shops. It’s also home to the former Old Scottish Rite Hospital which currently houses an art gallery, a wine bar and a community center and event facility.

East Lake MARTA rail station, is located at Dekalb Avenue and East Lake Avenue.

Oakhurst Garden

The Oakhurst Garden is located at 435 Oakview Road just southwest of Agnes Scott College. The garden is open to the public from sunup to sundown. It has 24 community plots, a greenhouse, a mini-farm, herb garden, bee-keeping, chickens and pocket ecosystems throughout the site. It’s a member of the Wylde Center which was founded to provide opportunities to experience nature in an urban environment.

Hosea & 2nd

Where the edge of Oakhurst meets East Lake and Kirkwood is the intersection of Hosea & 2nd. Named after the intersection, Hosea & 2nd is a new destination for local, independent restaurants and other unique offerings. With 2 corners now complete, work has begun on rehabilitating the 3rd corner of this intersection.
